Scarlett Johansson is a sexy manhunting alien, and she’ll also be playing one in Under The Skin from unnerving director Jonathan Glazer (Birth, Sexy Beast). Unnerving would also be the appropriate way to describe the trailer, giving away nothing of the plot and amping everything up with an off-kilter score.
“When was the last time you touched someone?” Scarlett Johansson asks one of the hitchhikers she picks up to (spoiler alert) sell back to her home planet as exotic meat. Does she at least sleep with them first like in Species? Because we know some guys in the UPROXX office who would drive to the abandoned lot of her choosing, if that were the case.
We’ve heard rumors Glazer asked Johansson to pick up real hitchhikers in a van to prepare for the role. Glazer also told The Playlist that he shot 270 hours of film, with up to eight cameras running simultaneously, and did much of it guerrilla style so many shots had to be abandoned when someone wouldn’t sign a release form. No wonder it was in post-production for so long. Then again, it could all be a ploy for Glazer to film Scarlett Johansson from several angles for dozens of hours. Brilliant.
Here’s an intriguing synopsis, via First Showing:
In search of loners, Laura (Scarlett Johansson) drives around the exquisitely moody landscapes of the Scottish highlands. She’s an alien, sent from afar and equipped with enough human language and awesome seductive power to capture, destroy and presumably send home human males. And then, her curiosity about her human body and an accidental act of pity disrupt her mission.
Wait, go back a bit. You can’t just say Scarlett Johansson has “curiosity about her human body” and not explain that. I’m a gold star gay and even I did a spit take on that one.
Under The Skin opens April 4th.
