Back in November, it was revealed that the Evil Dead saga would continue on TV, with the Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead. The new series would feature Bruce Campbell as the titular Ash, and series creator Sam Raimi would be producing, writing and even directing an episode. So, yeah. Some fairly groovy news.
That said, The Chin is getting a bit long in the tooth, so Campbell is probably going to need some whippersnappers around to pick up the slack/get killed by Deadites. Well, Ash vs. Evil Dead has chosen the lucky/doomed actors who get to tag along on Ash’s adventure.
Ray Santiago (Touch, Meet the Fockers) will play Pablo Simon Bolivar, a wide-eyed immigrant who becomes a sort of Sancho Panza to Ash’s Don Quixote. Dana DeLorenzo (Growing Up Fisher, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson) will play Kelly Maxwell, a sassy hellion trying to outrun her past. Neither sound like particularly original characters, the again, on paper, neither does Ash. The Evil Dead series is all about playing with tropes and cliches, so I’ll wait and see how this plays out.
Ash Vs. Evil Dead will debut in late 2015, and I’m totally willing to wait patiently for it to arrive.
Or not.
