Earlier this week, the internet found itself over the moon with a NSFW parody fan film of Power Rangers. After a few days, however, the film’s creators found themselves in legal trouble when Haim Saban and his company, Saban Brands, the owners of the property, pulled it from Vimeo. Now, after a few more days of public outcry by fans for tolerance from Saban, the film has also been pulled from YouTube by the company.
“When a copyright holder notifies us of a video that infringes their copyright, we remove the content promptly in accordance with the law,” [said a YouTube spokesperson]. (Via)
Unfortunately, U.S. law requires video hosters pull content immediately upon receiving a copyright claim. It is then the responsibility of the filmmakers to counter that claim in court if desired. So, unless this issue in fact does go to such a level, don’t expect to see the short on YouTube (officially) again anytime soon.
