Recently Konami has been busying itself screwing over Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, but before that they were screwing over Koji Igarashi, the creator of Symphony of the Night and many other beloved Castlevania games. Igarashi left Konami more than a year ago, and fans have been waiting on pins and needles since then for the inevitable Castlevania “spiritual successor” to hit Kickstarter. Now, it finally has.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a classic, 2D Castlevania game in everything but name. In addition to a beautiful art style and classic “Metroidvania” gameplay, Bloodstained also promises co-op multiplayer, a first for a Castlevania-style game.
Bloodstained will be developed by Inti Creates, with another anticipated spiritual successor, Mighty No. 9. Igarashi will be acting as creative director and director of the title, and the music will be handled by Michiru Yamane (Skullgirls, Super Smash Bros) and Ippo Yamada (the Mega Man series).
Not surprisingly, the Bloodstained Kickstarter has been a major success. As of now, it’s racked up nearly $1.4 million in less than 24 hours. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been announced for PC, Xbox One and PS4, and it’s been strongly hinted that Wii U is also a possibility if enough Kickstarter cash is accrued. Unfortunately, we’ll be waiting a while until early 2017 for the game.
