If you were big into gaming during the Super Nintendo and N64 eras, what’s become of Rare no doubt makes you very sad. Under Microsoft’s ownership, the creators of Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Goldeneye 007 and Donkey Kong Country were reduced to making bland Kinect sports games.
Well, it seems as though Rare may be getting another shot a relevance. At their E3 press conference Microsoft announced Rare Replay, a collection of 30 classic Rare titles. Of course, a lot of your favorite games they worked on with Nintendo won’t be included, but it will contain a good smattering of classics. You can check out a trailer for Rare Replay above.
They also announced an all-new Rare-developed IP called Sea of Thieves. Basically, the game is an online, open-world version of Monkey Island, which is a pretty damn solid premise if you ask me.
What do you folks think? Could Rare make a comeback happen, or is this the last gasp?
