Halo 5: Guardians is still a couple months away, but you can experience the first three or four (non-playable) minutes of the game right now, by watching the game’s opening cinematic. Yeah, I know, the Halo games aren’t really about the story so much, but still, it gives some sense of the tone of the game.
Interestingly, traditional Halo protagonist, Master Chief, is nowhere to be seen in this cinematic. Instead, the video stars Spartan Locke and his badass Fireteam Osiris squad, which includes Sgt. Buck as played by a digital Nathan Fillion. It seems a scientist has defected to the alien side, and it’s up to Fireteam Osiris to get that scientist back by whatever means necessary. Considering the fact that Spartan Locke spends most of Halo 5 hunting Master Chief on his own, I have a feeling this mission may not go so well for the rest of the team. Sorry, Firefly fans.
Of course, the real focus of the trailer is the shooting, and crazy skydiving and multicolored explosions. Boom, bang, boosh! The Halo series has never scrimped on bombast, and it looks like Halo 5 will be no different. Halo 5: Guardians hits shelves October 23.
