Keeping track of video game releases isn’t as easy as it once was — the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they’re spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile).
Well, I’m here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I’ll rattle off five games I think you should check out. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week — think of them as a nice rounded tasting menu. Each week I’ll try to highlight several games from different corners of the gaming landscape (handhelds, consoles, indie, PC, you name it) then finish up with a “Pick of the Week”.
Hit the jump for the five games you’re going to want to check out this week…
This Week’s Indie Game
Tiny Brains (PS4, Dec. 3rd)
Searching for something to play on your shiny new PS4? Well, Tiny Brains may not make extensive use of the console’s processing power, but it’s a fun-looking little co-op puzzle-platformer starring some sorta-weird, sorta-cute critters. Give it a look.
This Week’s Strategy RPG
Rainbow Moon (PS Vita, Dec. 3rd)
Previously released on the PS3, Rainbow Moon makes it’s way to the Vita this week, which is probably where it’ll be more at home — strategy RPGs just belong on handhelds, ya know? This one should provide a lot of value for a budget price.
This Week’s Adventure Game
Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse: Episode 1 (PC, Dec. 4th)
The first chapter of the Kickstarter funded fifth entry in the Broken Sword series hits this week. This entry looks as classic as it gets, featuring tons of 2D art, and yet another Da Vinci Code-esque story full of conspiracies, art and general skulduggery. For the record, Broken Sword 5 will only be split into two chapters, and the makers of the gamer are promising this first chapter is meaty enough to be full game on it’s own. Here’s Broken Sword 5’s Good Old Games page.
This Week’s Sonic Game
3D Sonic the Hedgehog (3DS, Dec. 5th)
Hey, everyone still likes the original Sonic the Hedgehog, right? Well, aside from that water level. Anyways, Sega is remaking some of its classic Genesis games in 3D for the 3DS, and Sonic hits this week. Come on, it’s a slow week!
Pick of the Week
Gran Turismo 6 (PS3, Dec. 6th)
Planning on buying an Xbox One or PS4 to play next-gen racing games like Forza 5 and Driveclub? Well, I guess you could do that, or you could just pick up the gorgeous Gran Turismo 6 for the PS3. Hey, you can even race on the moon in it! Can’t do that on those next-gen racers!
So yeah, it seems like publishers have decided to not bother publishing anything after Black Friday this year. This week was slow, and things are just going to get slower. Might have to change this feature up a little over the next couple weeks! Anyways, any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let everyone know.
