Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare may be blasting off to outer space, but EA’s rival Battlefield franchise is going in the complete opposite direction. The next game in the series, entitled Battlefield 1, will instead be set amidst the muck and barbed wire of World War I.
While World War II has been a common (arguably too common) setting for first-person shooters, the 1914 to 1918 Great War has been far less tapped. Probably because it was a much more primitive war technologically, and most World War I soldiers spent the majority of their time huddled in muddy trenches.
Well, based on its first trailer, Battlefield 1 is still going to deliver plenty of action. The trailer delivers pretty much everything you might expect from a World War I action game, including biplane dogfighting, old-timey tanks, flamethrowers, and, of course, zeppelins. We also see some things you might not expect – horses, deserts, a guy in what appears to be a suit of armor. Check it all out, at the top of this post.
What do you think? Intrigued by the World War I era? Or are you more into Call of Duty‘s futuristic vision? Personally, as a bit of a history buff, I’m more into the Battlefield approach.
Battlefield 1 storms the PC, Xbox One, and PS4 October 18, 2016.
