Well folks, Sony is once again pulling absolutely no punches for the E3 Press Conference. Last year’s show was a big one for Sony, and E3 2016 might be even bigger – we’ve already seen a ton of great stuff, and now the company has given us a first look at Hideo Kojima’s next project, Death Stranding.
The artsy debut trailer starts with the camera panning along a beach, littered with bones, dead crabs and handprints. Eventually we come upon the naked body of a man (who looks a lot like Solid Snake from the back) lying beside a tiny baby, squalling in the sand. The man rises and picks up the baby, and holy crap, it turns out it’s The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus. After a second the baby disintegrates into black sludge, and tiny child-sized handprints appear on Reedus’ body and in the sand. If it wasn’t obvious already, things are not quite what they seem. The trailer ends with a nice long shot of digitized Normal Reedus ass. Kojima knows what the audience wants.
Between the appearance of Reedus and the creepy overtones, Death Stranding definitely appears to be a spiritual successor of sorts to Silent Hills, the sadly-canceled horror collaboration between Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. This new trailer doesn’t mention Del Toro at all, but he was said he’s 100 percent down to work with Kojima again.
Death Stranding can’t have been in production for long (Kojima only officially left Konami a few months ago) but whatever it is, it’s going to be big. What do you think? Hyped or super, crazy hyped?
