Warning: If you want to go into Doom completely fresh, don’t watch the above video.
After many years stuck in development hell, the new Doom finally hit shelves today. I like to assume most readers are mature, adult people with jobs or some kind of responsibilities, which means you probably haven’t gotten a chance to play the game yet. So, let me whet your appetite one last time.
Courtesy of IGN, we have the first 18 minutes of Doom‘s single player campaign, and it looks like a hellishly good time. The game starts with you chained to an operating table for some reason, but very quickly story is tossed straight in the sulfur pits in favor of Doom‘s trademark demon-splattering violence. This game is fast, ferocious, and very pretty in an over-the-top sort of way.
Review copies of Doom weren’t sent out until today, which led to speculation that the game might not be great, but early impressions have actually been quite positive. Why Bethesda decided to hold back on review copies, I’m not sure. Perhaps it was just an experiment. Expect a GammaSquad review sometime next week.
In the meantime, anybody out there have their hands on Doom? What do you think of the game?
