If you told us we’d get to type the words “sexy heist” and “Channing Tatum” in a headline today, we’d ask what good deed we accidentally did to deserve such splendid news. But here it is anyway, news that Channing Tatum’s Gambit is going to be a “heist movie” and a “sexy thriller.” Producer Simon Kinberg revealed all this and more in an interview with Collider.
Kinberg talked about how Deadpool and Gambit are setting themselves apart from the rest of the X-Men films:
“Deadpool obviously has a very different, almost antithetical tone to the mainline X-Men movies. The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way.”
Sexy heists are the second best type of heist. (First place still goes to Zebra heists. But not to sexy zebra heists. Those are just dissettling.)
Kinberg also revealed they’re going to miss their October 7, 2016 release date, but they do have a director picked to replace Rupert Wyatt. He wouldn’t say who the new director is because it’s not official yet. All signs point to Doug Liman. Well, not so much “point” as “shake around sort of near what we’re trying to see” because it’s Doug Liman and that’s his thing. I will never stop making that joke.
