Unless things go exceptionally wrong, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be, by default, the best Star Wars prequel. But rumors had been going around that George Lucas’ much-derided attempts to reclaim cinematic glory would be getting a nod. It turns out, though, that the rumors are thankfully not true.
In a few interviews from Star Wars Celebration just now making their way around the internet, a few rumors get torpedoed. One is that we’ll be seeing young Han Solo, which, if you think about it, wouldn’t make any sense anyway. Why would Han be involved at all in heisting the Death Star plans? Similarly, Kathleen Kennedy ruled out the idea that Hayden Christensen would be running around under the Darth Vader mask.
That said, though, there is a prequel connection of sorts, as Forrest Whitaker is playing an older, angrier Saw Gerrera, a character from the Clone Wars cartoon starring Anakin, before that whole heel turn thing everybody was so angry about. And Star Wars fans who have been following all the media released in the wake of the Disney deal have noticed that Marvel in particular has sprinkled several nods to the prequels in its books, including the angry Force ghost of Darth Maul. So there may be something more subtle, for the sharper-eyed fans.
