Star Wars: The Force Awakens won’t hit theaters for seven more gruelingly long months, but four months from tonight all the toys and collectibles you can imagine will roll out for “Force Friday”. That’s what Disney et al. is calling the marketing smorgasbord that will envelope stores everywhere three months before the long awaited Star Wars film releases this Christmas.
StarWars.com broke the news earlier today, causing immeasurable euphoria in adults and confusion among their kids:
StarWars.com is thrilled to announce that Star Wars: The Force Awakens products will land in our galaxy on September 4, 2015, at 12:01 a.m. — “Force Friday” — with stores around the world opening their doors at midnight for a special celebration of all things Star Wars. It will be a day long remembered.
“Every lightsaber, every action figure, every LEGO set tells a story for generations of Star Wars fans, and this global event is a celebration of those stories. We’re excited to be part of the countdown to this enormous movie moment,” said Josh Silverman, executive vice president, global licensing, Disney Consumer Products.

Apparently Monday, May the 4th — otherwise known as “Star Wars Day” — wasn’t enough for these people. The joint merchandising efforts created by Disney and Lucasfilm’s combined powers has now created “Force Friday”, which you can conveniently tweet about with the hashtag #ForceFriday.
If there isn’t a remote controlled BB-8, then it’s all a sham.
