XCOM 2 is a fantastic strategy game that’s had its already long life extended into immortality with the addition of Steam Workshop compatibility. If you were one of those gamers that was tired of XCOM 2’s fun, but been there, done that gameplay, and wanted a more of an emotional attachment to your squad, modder RealityMachina has done it. Now, using a system like Fire Emblem’s, in which the more your squad fights together and kills together, the more bonuses that squad will receive. In other words, your squad will bond together and begin to love fighting together (if you want to add an emotional gravity to the situation).
It’s all quite brilliant. You receive points that bring your squad together like the best squads known to man (like the crew from Predator because they were probably the best group of men to ever fight an alien). Points come from healing your soldiers, carrying a soldier out of a battle zone, flawlessly completing missions and killing aliens. RealityMachina broke down the benefits on the mod’s page:
Below 300 points, squads work as normal
At 300 to 600 points, a deployed squad gains a buff of +2 Aim, +2 Def, +1 Mobility, +5 Hacking, and +10 Will
At 600 to 1200 points, a deployed squad gains a buff of +5 aim, +5 Def, +2 Crit Chance, +10 hacking, +1 Mobility and +15 Will
And past 1200 points, a deployed squad will gain a buff of +5 aim, +5 Def, +5 crit chance, +2 Mobility, +15 hacking, and +20 Will
This is exactly what XCOM 2 needs to stay fresh. If the game is going to remain a turn-based RPG that requires some massive suspension of disbelief when missing a shot right in front of a drooling alien, the least we can have is our squads bonding together and becoming more badass as they grow battle-hardened.
