Remember how Disney announced there would be 20+ books coming out to bridge the gap in Star Wars lore? And remember how HitFix Harpy postulated that a power vacuum created by the death of the Emperor would create a race to fill it?
“Star Wars: Aftermath” suggests that”s just what happened.
“Aftermath” will be written by Chuck Wendig, best known for his novels “Blackbirds,” “Mockingbird,” and “Under the Empyrean Sky.” Wendig also dabbles in writing for comics, such as the upcoming on-going THE SHIELD by Dark Circle Comics.
Obviously, the plot of “Aftermath” is being kept tightly under wraps for now. The synopsis is purposely vague in the official announcement:
The second Death Star has been destroyed. Rumors are flying that the Emperor and his enforcer, Darth Vader, are dead. A new government is forming to replace the Empire. But the galaxy is a big place, and the fallout of this cataclysm will affect different worlds in different ways. Does everyone accept the fall of Imperial rule? Has everyone even heard the life-altering news? What rushes in to fill the vacuum the Empire has left? And who will try to stop them?
What we do know is that “Aftermath” is the first of a planned trilogy of novels that will directly connect “Return of the Jedi” to “The Force Awakens,” so expect Easter Eggs and perhaps even a spoiler or two.
As to how Wendig feels about all this? I think it”s safe to say he”s excited. According to his blog Terrible Minds.
I cannot feel my legs, and I have been drunkenly pirouetting wildly around the house for months, making lightsaber sounds and forcing my four-year-old on a steady regimen of Star Warsy goodness. I am geeking out hardcore over here.
“Star Wars: Aftermath” will be on store shelves September 4, 2015. You can pre-order your copy now!
