Today in entertainment news, actress Raven Symone was named new co-host of ABC”s “The View”.
Raven Symone got her start as an actress in 1989 on the now forever-tainted “The Cosby Show”. She is most famous for the Disney Channel original series “That”s So Raven”, in which she played a psychic version of herself named Raven Baxter. To get to know our new “View” co-host, let”s take a closer look at what it really means to be “So Raven”.
1. Being an LGQBT supporter is So Raven.
Raven Symone prefers to keep the topic of her sexual orientation private, but in 2014 she opened up to Oprah Winfrey about being in a happy relationship with a woman. She spoke out in favor of gay marriage, though she herself is not ready to get married.
2.Sparking controversy is So Raven.
In her 2014 Oprah interview, Raven explained “I don't want to be labeled gay, I want to be a human who loves humans.” She went on to say, “I'm tired of being labeled, I'm an American. I'm not an African-American; I'm an American.” It”s not hard to see why this rubbed some folks the wrong way. Her statement can be interpreted as feeling negatively about the words “gay” and “African-American”, which some felt implied she would shame identifying with either. However, Raven quickly clarified for those who misunderstood that this statement was purely about doing away with labels. She is proud to be African American and proud to be gay, but just didn”t like being called either.
3. Having a gigantic filmography is So Raven:
From 1989 up to today, Raven Symone has been in over thirty TV shows and fifteen movies. One of these movies just happens to be my favorite childhood fixation “Zenon, Girl of the 21st Century”. Raven plays Nebula, Zenon”s best friend who has to help her save their orbiting space-ship community from getting blown up. If you haven”t seen this Disney masterpiece, I highly recommend it for the child trapped inside you.
4. Being a renaissance woman is So Raven:
In addition to being an actress, Raven is also a singer-songwriter, dancer, model, and television producer. You probably didn”t know that Raven Symone has eight whole albums (four studio and four soundtrack), the first of which was released in 1993, entitled “Here”s to New Dreams”.
5. ABC”s “The View” is So Raven:
After making 37 appearances on “The View”, Raven has finally been invited to take a permanent position as co-host. I”m sure I speak for many when I say I look forward to the dose of personality she is sure to bring to the table.
