Arnold Schwarzenegger famously bashed the Predator sequels during a recent live Reddit Q&A, telling the crowd: “So far, no Predator [movie], no matter which one they did after the first one, has been satisfactory to the audience.” Arguable! Nevertheless, I have no doubt that hardcore fans would love to see Dutch facing off with the man-hunting humanoid aliens once again. And according to Schwarzenegger, that may actually be in the cards. As he indicated in a recent interview with fansite The Arnold Fans — who caught up with him at the annual bodybuilding competition known as the Arnold Sports Festival — he's open to the idea of appearing in Shane Black's forthcoming sequel/reboot The Predator. Black, of course, both starred in and did some uncredited writing on the 1987 original.
“I haven”t talked with him (Shane Black) yet but I”m going to meet with him for lunch sometime soon,” said Schwarzenegger. “Just as soon as I”m finished with this (Arnold Sports Festival) and [hosting] The Apprentice and all this stuff. But I will get together with him. If there is any news, we”ll of course let you know right away.”
Schwarzenegger could certainly use the boost. Unlike fellow '80s and '90s action superstar Sylvester Stallone — who scored an Academy Award nomination this year for his performance in the Rocky passing-of-the-torch sequel Creed — his recent attempts at recapturing his former glory on the big screen have mostly fallen flat. Given fan excitement around The Predator, this may be his best chance yet at racking up a bona fide latter-day hit.
The Predator is slated for release on March 2, 2018.
