(CBR) Canada”s national superhero has been staging a comeback over the past few years, with plans for a movie, the launch of an animated web series, and the promise of his own maple syrup. And over the weekend at Toronto ComiCon, artist Kalman Andrasofszky unveiled the first three pages of a planned four-issue miniseries.
The comic will be written and drawn by Andrasofszky, with colors by Jim Charalimpidis. The series sprang from the “Captain” webisodes, for which Andrasofszky provided designs. However, the comic series has grown to become its own thing.
“As a way of connecting the legacy classic Canuck to our reboot, each issue has a main story featuring new Captain Canuck, which is the one I”m doing, along with a short back-up featuring a brand-new story about classic Canuck drawn by a rotating cast of Canadian artists,” Andrasofszky told Geek Pron in late January. “Our mandate is to keep all the creative Canadian. There is a lot of Canadian comic book talent that a lot of people don”t even know are Canadian. We want to use this as an opportunity to showcase some of them and to keep it a home-grown product like the original Canuck was.”
No publisher has been announced, but Andrasofszky told the website the launch is planned for July 1, Canada Day.
