Marvel just found another friend for the end of the world.
We were already psyched up for Thor: Ragnarok just on the basis of the title alone – with the promise of the comic book movie take on the Norse apocalypse – but the talent on board is getting us more and more stoked for the sequel too.
Tessa Thompson, who recently graced the big screen as Adonis Creed”s girlfriend in Creed, has joined the cast of Thor: Ragnarok.
The Hollywood Reporter posted that details for Thompson”s part have not been revealed but she could be the new female lead since Natalie Portman is not returning. (Thompson will get to share the screen with Portman in another movie though – the two will play scientists in Annihilation, the next sci-fi thriller from the director of Ex Machina.) Deadline is reporting that Thompson”s character will be Thor”s next love interest and “will be a kind of superhero and will appear in other Marvel films as well.” Reasonable assumptions to make. But with Marvel not confirming news of her casting, consider any details on her part to be rumors for now.
Thompson has also wowed audiences in Dear White People and Selma and garnered fans with her role as Jackie Cook in Veronica Mars.
The threequel (is it a threequel? All these Avengers make us not so sure) is being directed by Taika Waititi, much to the delight of fans of Flight of the Conchords and What We Do in the Shadows.
Also expected to star in Ragnarok are Chris Hemsworth (of course), Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Mark Ruffalo, and Cate Blanchett.
Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3, 2017.
