While the Warner Bros. DC film universe keeps moving along, many of us have been keeping an eye on Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn spinoff project. It turns out there's been a development on that end. The film, said to involve several of DC Comics' most famous female characters, hero and villain alike, now has a screenwriter.
The Wrap reports Christina Hodson will write the Suicide Squad spin-off being produced by Robbie. The actor has been very vocal about her love for the character. The initial report on the project had a team-up of sorts in mind with Batgirl and the Birds of Prey being mentioned, though this new report doesn't' give any more info on that end.
While Hodson may not be a household name, she's appeared on Hollywood's Black List several times for her screenplays since 2013 and wrote this year's Shut In starring Naomi Watts, Oliver Platt, and Jacob Tremblay. She's also already worked with Warner Bros. having contributed to the script for next year's Unforgettable starring Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl and a reboot of The Fugitive. She's also been working on a Bumblebee spinoff from Paramount”s Transformers.
No word on when the Harley Quinn project will get notable movement, it's not currently on Warner's comic book release schedule, but safe to say the character has always been a fan favorite and getting more of DC's women on the big screen sounds great to me. Suffice to say I'm also glad they've got a female voice behind the scenes, other than Robbie of course, considering Harley's depictions haven't always been the most positive.
