Ye monsters beware!
After sitting out the third film, Kate Beckinsale is back as Selene in the “Underworld” universe. The brand new poster for the upcoming “Underworld: Awakening” shows us that not much has changed in the series: Beckinsale still wears a tighter-than-tight leather/rubber/PVC/spraypaint outfit and carries lots of guns.
In this fourth installment, Selene awakens after a 15-year coma and finds that the world has moved on. Vampires and lycans (fancy talk for “werewolves”) are known to humankind and are nearly extinct. It’s her mission to find out why a faceless corporation called Antigen seems to be experimenting with monstrous DNA. And, oh yeah — she has a teenage daughter this time around, sorta like “Twilight.”
“Awakening” was directed by Swedes Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein (“Storm,” “Shelter”) and also stars Michael Ealy, Sandrine Holt and India Eisley.
The film opens nationwide in 3D January 20, 2012.
We’ll see more of beckinsale in the upcoming “Total Recall” remake directed by her husband Len Wiseman (who also produces the “Underworld” films). “Total Recall” also stars Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, John Cho and Bryan Cranston.
