UPDATE (9/30/15 12:35 PM PT):
Robert Englund on Tuesday exploded any suggestion that he'll reprise the role of Freddy Krueger with the following tweet:
Just for the record, I will NOT be starring as Freddy in any new Nightmare projects, real or fictional

ORIGINAL STORY:
Robert Englund made news out of some second-tier Comic Con over the weekend with the suggestion that — contrary to prior indications — he would be completely down to reprise the role of Freddy Krueger in another sequel.
Truly, I don't know how to feel about this. The best “Elm Street” films were the ones that Craven was directly involved with (the original film, 1994's post-modern “New Nightmare” and even Part 3, “Dream Warriors”), and the horror master is no longer around for quality control purposes.
But perhaps the most eyebrow-raising portion of Englund's comments came when he began pitching ideas for followups:
“You don”t do remakes!” he said, referencing recent reports that a rebooted “Elm Street” is in the works. “I would do ‘Freddy 9”, you know? Or I would do ‘Freddy vs Michael Myers.' Or I would do a prequel.”
And then:
“Well, I”d like to see ‘Nightmare in the Hood”! I would! I think it”d be really interesting to do a line of, like, retro 80″s hip hop ones and get a black actor to play 'Freddy' and all the kids are, like, hip hop. Just do it the same!”
I'm gonna leave that second one alone (perhaps there's a way to do this that's not “Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood”) but as to “Freddy vs. Michael Myers”: how about not? How about we leave the monster-movie mashups to the cultural dustbin of 2003, when Twitter didn't exist to DESTROY the very, very un-P.C. Kelly Rowland line “What kind of faggot runs around in a Christmas sweater?” Oh yes, we remember, Destiny No. 2.
