Last year, “99 Homes” and “The Big Short” delved into the housing market crisis and the 2008 stock market crash, and it doesn”t look like Hollywood”s going to stop there with contemporary tales of financial woes. A trailer dropped Tuesday for “Money Monster,” an upcoming Jodie Foster-directed film that also delves into the impact of the market crash.
The movie reunites “Ocean”s Eleven” stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Clooney plays Lee Gates, a stock wiz TV host, and Roberts plays his producer. They”re both held hostage on the air by a young man who lost everything when he followed Gates” advice and invested in a tech stock that mysteriously crashes.
The trailer begins as an intense, high-octane hostage thriller with corporate intrigue, but halfway through, the acoustic guitar strumming of Bruce Springsteen”s 2005 song “Devils & Dust” seems to be promoting this as a human story that”s gonna tug on some heartstrings.
The movie also stars some big TV names: “Breaking Bad” actor Giancarlo Esposito, “Outlander” actress Caitronia Balfe, and “The Wire” alum Dominic West.
