Today, in Inevitable But Still Happy News: HBO has renewed Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, and Veep for new seasons, three days before their respective next seasons debut.
Game of Thrones is HBO's biggest hit in years, and it'll be around as long as David Benioff and D.B. Weiss need to tell the rest of the story, even without George R.R. Martin's books for guidance. (Though in recent days, there have been talks of following the upcoming sixth season with a pair of abbreviated seasons to wrap things up; HBO says no decision has been made yet on how many episodes next season will feature.) Veep is the reigning Emmy winner for Outstanding Comedy Series, and Silicon Valley is also critically acclaimed and good for awards nominations. None of these shows was going anywhere, making today's news a formality.
But a welcome formality.
