Last week, we got a whole lot of new information about the big screen additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but let us not forget that there is still a significant, and growing, small screen component. There is a good deal of crossover between the small- and big-screen parts of the MCU, and the new trailer for “Marvel's Agent Carter” is a great example.
“Agent Carter” takes place in 1946 and features Hayley Atwell in the title role, a part we've already seen her play in both “Captain America” films. You can also expect to see her reprise the role in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and “Ant-Man.”
Here, however, she's front and center. She is the title character after all.
As for the trailer itself, there are lots of things to note, from the reappearance of Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) to a first look Edwin Jarvis (James D'Arcy), or Jarvis 1.0 if you prefer. This Jarvis is not some incredible computer program created by a Stark (Tony or Howard), but rather a living, breathing, human.
Lest you think that this new (or old?) Jarvis has no espionage experience, in what might be the best moment of the trailer, he offers Agent Carter something of a resume. “Last summer, I caught the cook pocketing the good spoons.” He also lays down the law about what time he's done for the night (9pm), and we applaud his setting boundaries.
Watch the trailer for yourself, see what you pick up and how it might relate back to other parts of the MCU. We would guess there are some references for those with a keen eye or ear.
“Marvel's Agent Carter” will step into the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” time slot this January. The series also stars Chad Michael Murray, Enver Gjokaj, and Shea Whigham.
