Ryan Guzman is wrapping up work on one musically-savvy picture, as he's filming on another. The dancer and singer will be doing only the latter in the forthcoming “Jem and the Holograms” movie, he revealed this week during promotions for “Step Up All In.”
Many fans of the original “Jem” dolls and the television show are eager to see what facets of the truly outrageous character survive in the upcoming film adaptation. (OK, well at least this fan is.) Guzman plays Rio — the Holograms' road manager — in the 2016 flick, and he's got some good news and some bad news in that regard.
The long purple hair? GONE.
“Rio is reinvented,” he said, smiling, though: “He's overtly pretty or some reason, so he's always put together. He sings in the movie, but no dancing.”
Guzman's “Step Up” franchise Jon M. Chu is directing “Jem and the Holograms” is being directed by Guzman's “Step Up Revolution” boss Jon M. Chu, with Aubrey Peeples as its titular lead.
