In about two months, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” will arrive on the big screen. But, like a massive military force softening up an enemy before a ground invasion, we keep getting new, fresh, looks at the upcoming film designed to shock and awe.
Lionsgate has just released a new trailer called “The Mockingjay Lives,” and it offers up more of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) than we have yet seen in this third entry in the franchise. What is abundantly clear from the trailer is that Katniss is still struggling with her role and all that has happened to her – as she tells President Snow (Donald Sutherland), this was not a battle she chose; she never wanted to be in the games, she just wanted to save her sister.
We do not always get to choose our battles however, sometimes they are thrust upon us and we can either take them up or we can crawl off into a corner. That second option is significantly more difficult though when the battle is over the things-or people-you love. Snow makes this abundantly clear to Katniss in a video heart-to-heart in the trailer, “Miss Everdeen, it's the things we love most… that destroy us.”
Will Katniss be consumed by the fire? Can the Capitol beat her and the rebels or, will she be able to harness the districts' devotion to her and overcome evil? Maybe Snow is giving us an indication of how his demise will take place.
Yeah, we probably aren't going to get those answers in this movie as “Part 2” is due out in November 2015, but everything we've seen so far is pointing towards a great fight, and looking at this trailer it seems clear that the battle is about to begin. It isn't just going to be a battle between the rebels and the Capitol though, Katniss is going to be fighting on a multitude of fronts.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, “Mockingjay Part 1” also counts among its cast Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The movie will be in theaters on November 21st.
