“Everyone had the same vision.” So said Lily Collins of the filmic adaptation of “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” during our interview with the actress, Kevin Zegers, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
The sets, props, and look of the movie were what Collins had expected having read the novels (she was in fact a fan of the books prior to being cast in the lead). Even so, she told us she was still impressed by the grandiosity and attention to detail of the production, particularly the library.
In discussing his work on the movie, Jamie Campbell Bower talked about the importance of connecting to the fans who went on the mall tour and who had previously been readers of Cassandra Clare’s novels. Those fans, Bower believes (presumably correctly), will be the first ones in line to watch the movie when it opens.
There is also good news for people who find themselves enjoying “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” — many of the same cast members and department heads are going to be returning for the sequel. While it doesn’t yet have a definite release date, “The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes” is scheduled to start filming in about a month, with Harald Zwart returning to the director’s chair.
With six novels currently written/announced for “The Mortal Instruments” series, if the movie does well at the box office, we could be looking at regular filmic installments for years to come.
“The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” opens August 21.
