Marvel”s Punisher could get his own Netflix series
In the wake of the success of “Daredevil””s first season Netflix has already announced an ambitious season two that will feature both Jon Bernthal as The Punisher (“The Walking Dead”) and Elodie Yung as Elektra. Before we see what has been described by Season 2 co-showrunner Marco Ramirez as “Daredevil vs. the Punisher”, however, we will be introduced to Jessica Jones.
At today”s TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour Netflix announced that “Marvel”s Jessica Jones” will debut in the fourth quarter of 2015. Additionally, Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said that Netflix”s plan is to release a new Marvel series every six months leading into the united team-up The Defenders, which will feature Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones. Sarandos added
Adding, “Some will selectively have multiple seasons as they come out of the gate. So they”ll probably be two launches a year.” It would seem that the plan is to gauge the audience response to the particular series and decide which will continue as solo series, and which will be reserved for The Defenders from there.
Post-panel, HitFix asked if it was possible for Punisher to get his own Netflix series now that he's to appear in Daredevil, to which Sarando”s replied that, “Yes, anything is possible.”
Right now, the plan is unit the Defenders, but Netflix CCO emphasized that not only might Punisher get his own series, but that any one of these characters could spin off into their own movie.
“That's the beauty of the Marvel universe,” he concluded.
