“He’s going to destroy the world.” So says Russell Crowe early on in the trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s “Noah.” Certainly by the end of the two-and-a-half minute clip, it appears that the world is coming to a water-soaked end, but things go badly well before that, with Noah seemingly needing to battle an entire kingdom in order to keep his famed ark.
The trailer offers up a huge amount of spectacle, from massive armies of humans to hordes of animals to more than a little water. And, unlike the Bill Cosby version of the tale, at least in the trailer, Noah does not talk back to the Lord.
Directed by Aronofsky and with a screenplay by Aronofksy and Ari Handel, the update on the biblical tale features Crowe in the title role, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins, and Logan Lerman. The synopsis offered up by Paramount at this time remains simple and straightforward, “Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe stars as Noah, a man chosen by God for a great task before an apocalyptic flood destroys the world.”
Simple and straightforward works. And, as the trailer shows, actions speak louder than words.
“Noah” sails into theaters on March 28, 2014. After seeing the trailer, are you going to get on board?
