The Internet moves at the speed of light. Memes are born, rise to fame, and are shoved into obscurity all within a few months. But occasionally something delightful comes along to remind us all what all the cool kids were doing way back in the summer of 2015.
With X-Men: Apocalypse drawing closer to its release date, director Bryan Singer released a quick dubsmash video that shows the X-Men transforming the base under the X-Mansion into a temporary dance floor. Beast (Nicholas Hoult) drops the beat, and the club goes wild!
What”s fascinating to be about this – besides watching Professor X (James McAvoy) flail with his students and trying to figure out why Storm (Alexandra Shipp) was there that day – is how long Singer had to have sat on this video. Production wrapped on Apocalypse back in August of 2015. Do a little math and that means “Beast Mode” was filmed around the time of the Great Dubsmash War between the casts of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter.
At the time, Dubsmash seemed unstoppable. It was everywhere. So of course the cast of Apocalypse would get in on the act. Hopefully, Singer has more videos stashed away somewhere, just waiting to be shared! But I just find this a particularly excellent example of the speed of social media these days. Until just now, how many of you even remembered Dubsmash existed?
X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
