Whether it’s heights, knives or holographic dogs, Shailene Woodley and Theo James have plenty to be afraid of in the final “Divergent” trailer, released today.
In a dystopian, war-ravaged Chicago, society is split into groups according to individual personalities. Woodley plays Tris, a seemingly fearless young girl who is labeled “Divergent,” and seen as a threat to the system. She soon finds herself hiding among the Dauntless faction — which includes the dreamy James — but her life is in danger and time is running out.
“Divergent” is based on a series of YA bestsellers by Veronica Roth, and Summit is hoping to get another lucrative film franchise out of the series, in the tradition of “Twilight” and “Hunger Games.”
It also stars Maggie Q, Zoe Kravitz, Mekhi Phifer, Ashley Judd, Ansel Elgort, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller and Kate Winslet. Neil Burger (“Limitless,” “The Illusionist”) directed.
“Divergent” opens March 21.
