Sia, who penned “Diamonds,” released her new song, “Chandelier” today. If you liked Sia for her quirky solo material or for her vocals with Zero 7, this is a whole different kettle of fish. Her voice is heavily processed on the verses as she does her best Rihanna imitation.
Her voice soars on the choruses, but she sounds like she”s straining, not displaying the ease she did as lead vocalists on David Guetta”s “Titanium.”
Sia co-wrote the song, which is about living in the moment and getting blotto enough that you swing from the lighting fixtures, initially thinking it would be a good fit for Rihanna, Beyonce or Katy Perry or so she told Ryan Seacrest, according to MTV. But she decided to keep it for herself.
You can”t blame her for wanting to score her own big hit with her name as lead artist given her success guesting on records by Guetta, Flo Rida, etc., and as co-author of hits for Rihanna and Christina Aguilera, but she can do a lot better than this.
What do you think of “Chandelier?”
