It took a lot of angry people and one seriously poor excuse to do it, but Hasbro has finally agreed to add Rey to its “Star Wars” Monopoly game.
Originally, the game, which was released back in September, had Luke Skywalker, Finn, Kylo Ren, and Darth Vader tokens instead of the traditional top hat or iron (I refuse to acknowledge that they retired the iron and replaced it with a cat). It did not have a Rey token, even though she's kind of an important part of the film and the franchise.
When people started to complain, Hasbro's excuse was that to include Rey in the game would have been a spoiler. That was silly and no one bought it, so about 24 hours later, Hasbro announced that Rey will be in future editions of the game. Lesson: as long as enough people get angry enough about it, Hasbro will allow female characters to be included in its toys.
“We love your passion for Rey,” Hasbro tweeted. “And are happy to share that we will be including her in the Monopoly: Star Wars game, available later this year.”
Spoiler alert: She will pass Go, she will collect 200 credits.
