Are you ready for some level ten nerdom?
Let”s dive in.
For us, part of the joy of being a fan, and of the buildup to the release of a highly anticipated movie, is the opportunity to release the kraken of our imagination and speculate on what this new entry may bring. And what in the history of movie-making has greater pre-release fervor than a new “Star Wars” movie?
Please note: what we discuss here and in the video above is indeed pure speculation on our part…So there are no real spoilers. However, if you want to go into “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” entirely blank, you may want to hop out now.
The other day, one of our intrepid Hitfix producers very casually made this statement: “Oh yeah, Chewbacca”s dead body is absolutely in the ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer?”
“Who said what now?” was my immediate response. There”s simply no way that fans would not have already picked up on that if what he was saying was true, I very primly informed aforementioned producer. And then he showed me what he was looking at. I”ve got to say, if you look closely at the image below (thank you Donna Dickens), it does indeed look as if Rey is wailing over the body of a brown figure that – if you look closely at the right side of the frame – appears to be wearing what very well could be Chewie”s bandolier.
I told you, we”re going deep nerd, here. I brought the image to my colleague Donna Dickens” attention, and we immediately began theorizing about what this may mean. First, the actor that plays Chewbacca, Peter Mayhew, has had some health issues and it”s possible that those behind the franchise want to give him a send-off befitting the character who has brought so many, so much joy. An epic end for a great Wookie.
Second, it looks as if Rey (and possibly Chewie) are in the same frozen woods that the fight between Finn and Kylo Ren takes place in. Was Chewie lost in a much larger fray? Finally, how did Rey find herself there?
And this is where – yes – a Duracell commercial comes in. Now, again, all of what we”re talking about is born of pure fan imagination. However, it”s possible that this commercial really has spoiled a plot point from the film. So again, I warn you to clear out now if you want to be as free of information as possible.
Take a look at the commercial below:
Did you notice anything? Now, it”s unlikely that the makers of this advertisement have any clue about the actual plot of “The Force Awakens.” However, how involved is Lucasfilm in the production of these ads? Might they have embedded a hint of things to come in there? After all, this is a Christmas commercial and will likely run far more frequently after the film opens on December 18th. The makers may want to appeal to what people have connected to in the film. If that”s the case, what can we take from this story that includes a boy, his lightsaber, and a little girl is dressed as Rey. Does it indicate that her character is both Force-Sensitive and valuable to the First Order?
Might Rey have been kidnapped and taken to those woods, to Starkiller Base? OR might they all have ended up in those woods as a part of their search for Luke Skywalker, which is what we”re assuming the film will center on.
