The ‘It’ remake has officially wrapped

The It remake/re-adaptation has officially completed filming, and producer Barbara Muschietti (sister of director Andres Muschietti) announced the news via Instagram along with, appropriately, a very creepy jack-in-the-box styled after Pennywise, the murderous clown who terrorizes the children (and later adults) of Derry, Maine:

Starring Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise and Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Jack Grazer, Chosen Jacobs and Wyatt Oleff as the pre-teen “Losers' Club,” this is the first part of a planned two-part adaptation of King's 1986 novel, which was previously adapted into a 1990 ABC miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise.

As we previously reported, the production has gone through some tumult over the past couple of years, with original director Cary Fukunaga dropping out last year following a creative disagreement with the studio. As the filmmaker told Variety later: “I was trying to make an unconventional horror film. It didn”t fit into the algorithm of what [the studio] knew they could spend and make money back on based on not offending their standard genre audience. …In the first movie, what I was trying to do was an elevated horror film with actual characters. They didn”t want any characters. They wanted archetypes and scares. I wrote the script. They wanted me to make a much more inoffensive, conventional script. But I don”t think you can do proper Stephen King and make it inoffensive.”

David Kajganich, Fukunaga and Chase Palmer all previously worked on the script, with the most recent draft being written by Muschietti and Gary Dauberman. Will Poulter (The Maze Runner) was previously cast as Pennywise but dropped out following Fukunaga's departure.

It is slated for release on September 8, 2017.
