Fans of 2013's “The Purge” should ready themselves with round two from “The Purge: Anarchy,” to the strains of the same composer from the first scary flick. Nathan Whitehead returned to score the sequel, and HitFix today exclusively reveals the first piece to arrive from the soundtrack: the ominously titled “Don't Do This.” Check out the song below.
“Scoring ‘The Purge: Anarchy” was thrilling,” Whitehead said of the new music. “Everything is bigger this time; the action, drama and tension all take place on a much larger scale. I worked hard to incorporate this larger scope in the music, and we went much further combining aggressive electronics and textures with a live orchestra. It was such a satisfying challenge, and I hope my score delivers the intense experience that moviegoers are looking forward to having.”
The original soundtrack will be be released on July 15 via Back Lot Music, while the James DeMonaco-directed film heads to theaters on July 18. Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez, Zoe Soul, Justina Machado and John Beasley star.
Whitehead has previously composed and arranged for projects including “Desperate Housewives,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” the “Gears of War” video game franchise, “Pride and Glory,” “Your Highness” and more.
