Agent Carter is dead. Long live Hayley Atwell”s career. Five years after parlaying a role as Steve Roger”s girlfriend into one of the most beloved female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hayley Attwell”s time at Marvel seems to have drawn to a close. Her storyline in the films has wrapped up neatly – or has it? – and ABC has put the kibosh on Agent Carter.
Now ABC has released a trailer for Atwell”s new project: Conviction. Something is discombobulating about seeing Steve”s best girl do a line of cocaine off her desk in an attempt to get fired from a job she hates.
The official synopsis:
Lawyer and former First Daughter Hayes Morrison (Hayley Atwell, “Marvel”s Agent Carter”) is about to accept a job offered from her sexy nemesis, NY District Attorney Wayne Wallis, to avoid jail time for cocaine possession and avoid hurting her mother”s Senate campaign. Working with his team at the new Conviction Integrity Unit will let her use her brilliant mind to turn over cases, where there is credible suspicion of wrongful conviction, and give her a chance to turn things around with her high-powered political family.
While I”m devastated to lose Agent Carter – and will keep hoping Atwell returns to the character one way or another – it still makes me happy to see her land an entirely different kind of role. Hayes Morrison might not have Peggy”s pluck, but she appears to be just as layered and complex.
What do you guys think?
