Fast National ratings for Wednesday, April 1, 2015.
Once again, “American Idol” couldn't beat “Survivor” in their head-to-head match-up, but thanks to a low second night for “The Dovekeepers,” FOX was able to win Tuesday overall. Meanwhile, “Modern Family” and “Black-ish” carried ABC to victory among young viewers.
Otherwise, it was a night of mixed returns. ABC's “The Middle” and “Goldbergs” both added viewers, but dropped in the key demo. The CW's “Arrow” was down in all measures. But NBC's “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Chicago PD” were both up.
On to the numbers…
Among adults 18-49, ABC averaged a 1.9 rating for Wednesday night, topping FOX's 1.7 rating in the key demographic. NBC's 1.4 key demo rating and CBS' 1.3 key demo rating followed, while The CW averaged a 0.7 key demo rating for the night.
Overall, though, FOX averaged an estimated 8.37 million viewers and a 5.2 rating/9 share for Wednesday night. CBS was second with 7.42 million viewers and a 4.5/8, edging out the 6.95 million viewers and 4.4/8 for ABC. NBC was a close fourth with 6.52 million viewers and a 4.4/8. The CW trailed with 2.05 million viewers and a 1.3/2.
8 p.m. – “Survivor: Worlds Apart” won the 8 p.m. hour with 9.47 million viewers and a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49. FOX's “American Idol” was second with 8.01 million viewers, but third with a 1.7 key demo rating, compared to ABC's “The Middle” (7.57 million and a 1.7 key demo) and “The Goldbergs” (7.18 million and a 1.9 key demo). NBC's “The Mysteries of Laura” averaged 6.36 million viewers and a 1.0 key demo rating for fourth, well ahead of the 2.36 million viewers and 0.8 key demo rating for The CW's “Arrow.”
9 p.m. – “American Idol” moved into first overall in the 9 p.m. hour with 8.72 million viewers and was up to second with a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. ABC's “Modern Family” (9.33 million and a 2.9 key demo) and “Black-ish” (7.4 million and a 2.4 key demo) were second overall and first in the key demo.The second night of CBS' “The Dovekeepers” was third with 6.52 million viewers and fourth with a 0.9 key demo rating, compared to the 6.32 million viewers and 1.5 key demo rating for NBC's “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” The CW's “Supernatural” averaged 1.74 million viewers and a 0.6 key demo rating.
10 p.m. – “Chicago PD” won the 10 p.m. hour for NBC with 6.89 million viewers and a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49. CBS' “Dovekeepers” averaged 6.27 million viewers for second and a 0.8 key demo rating for third, compared to the 1.3 key demo rating and 5.11 million viewers for ABC's “Nashville.”
