Fast National ratings for Monday, March 16, 2015.
The 20th season premiere for ABC's “Dancing with the Stars” was down from the September launch among young viewers, but up in viewers as ABC won Monday overall. And while “Dancing” took a bite out of “The Voice,” NBC still had no trouble winning the night among young viewers.
Most of Monday's variations were very minor shifts, including slight down-ticks for “Mike & Molly” and “Jane the Virgin,” but a tiny bump for “The Originals.”
Let's just get to the numbers…
Among adults 18-49, NBC averaged a 2.7 rating for Monday night, tops in the key demographic. ABC was second with a 1.9 key demo rating, followed by CBS' 1.4 key demo rating. FOX's 0.9 key demo rating and the 0.5 key demo rating for The CW trailed for the night.
Overall, though, ABC averaged an estimated 12.37 million viewers and an 8.0 rating/13 share for Monday night, far ahead of the 6.1/10 and 10.05 million viewers for NBC. CBS was well back in third with 7 million viewers and a 4.4/7, followed by FOX's 1.8/3 and 2.97 million viewers. The CW averaged 1.18 million viewers and a 0.8/1 for the night.
8 p.m. – “Dancing with the Stars” led the 8 p.m. hour with 13.68 million viewers, finishing second with a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49, compared to the 11.41 million viewers and 3.0 key demo rating for NBC's “The Voice.” CBS was third with a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” (8.39 million and a 1.7 key demo) and a new “Mike & Molly” (8.46 million and a 1.9 key demo). There was a big drop to the 2.44 million viewers and 0.6 key demo rating for FOX's “Gotham” repeat and to the 1.29 million viewers and 0.6 key demo rating for The CW's “The Originals.”
9 p.m. – The split remained the same in the 9 p.m. hour as ABC's “Dancing with the Stars” led overall with 14.37 million viewers and finished second with a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49, compared to the 13 million viewers and 3.5 key demo rating for NBC's “The Voice.” CBS' repeat of “Scorpion” averaged 6.44 million viewers and a 1.3 key demo rating, beating the 3.505 million viewers and 1.1 key demo rating for FOX's new “The Following.” The CW's “Jane the Virgin” averaged 1.07 million viewers and a 0.4 key demo rating.
10 p.m. – ABC's “Castle” averaged 9.07 million viewers to win the 10 p.m. hour and tied for first with a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. CBS' “NCIS: Los Angeles” repeat was second overall with 6.13 million viewers and third with a 1.1 key demo rating, compared to the 5.74 million viewers and 1.5 key demo rating for NBC's “Night Shift.”
