“Keeping it real” is a term that could well describe Daniel Craig’s rough-and-tumble, more vulnerable portrayal of British super-spy James Bond in the last two films of the long-running series, and it’s an approach he appears to have continued with his character in David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” – investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist.
Indeed, during HitFix reporter Katie Hasty’s recent one-on-one sit-down with Craig to discuss the new film, the actor highlighted the importance of “keeping it real” – an approach he believes allows the audience to easier suspend their disbelief when witnessing the on-screen action:
“I just think that in a thriller and a story like this, it’s important that [the audience thinks] somebody’s not gonna get out of this. And if the audience is with you, hopefully, and they believe you, then they think you’re in real jeopardy.”
Above you can check out the rest of the interview, during which Craig also discusses the key to Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander’s working relationship, fine-tuning the screenplay with Mara, director David Fincher and screenwriter Steven Zaillian prior to shooting, and keeping focused on set.
