Check out the new, action-packed trailer for DreamWorks’ upcoming sci-fi action film “Real Steel.”
The futuristic film, based on the short story by Richard Matheson (“I Am Legend”) centers on a boxing contender (Hugh Jackman), who is forced to retire early as the sport starts to become dominated by giant robots. Instead of giving up, Jackman — along with his estranged son, Max (Dakota Goyo, who played young “Thor”) find an old ‘bot and whip it into fighting shape. Sort of a robo-“Rocky.”
According to the trailer, the film offers some slick visual effects, gear-crunching action and maybe a little too much sentimental family-friendly gloss. In fact, you’re forgiven if you wish the robot would turn around and punch Goyo a few times. Still, director Shawn Levy supplied some fun, action-oriented laughs in both his “Night at the Museum” films, and in “Date Night,” with Steve Carell and Tina Fey.
On the plus side, Anthony Mackie (“The Hurt Locker”) and Evangeline Lilly (“Lost”) also star.
“Real Steel” opens nationwide October 7.
