There are only five more episodes off “The Office” this season after tonight and the question still haunts viewers, network execs and random entertainment reporters: Who will replace Steve Carell on the Emmy-winning and popular NBC comedy? HitFix had a chance to ask longtime “Office” star John Krasinski this past weekend and, needless to say, he didn’t know himself.
“We don’t know who will replace Steve yet. It might not even be a replacement of Steve, it might be more of a shift,” Krazinski says. “Y’know, everybody was talking about there being a spin-off of the show years ago and I feel like this is our spin-off.”
Krasinski, whose new movie “Something Borrowed” opens next month, was also enthusiastic about shooting the final two episodes of the season without Michael Scott.
The 31-year-old actor and director admitted, “The show sans-Steve it’s a whole new show so we’re actually really excited. The last two episodes this year are without Steve and without Will and they were awesome. They were really, really fun and as much as we will miss Steve for sure it’s kind of great to pick up this show in a whole different way. It’s really fun.”
Confirmed guest stars over the last few episodes of the show include Ray Romano, James Spader, Will Arnett and Ricky Gervais, but it’s not expected any of the actors will return to the show in the Fall.
