LOS ANGELES – One of the biggest reasons Will Ferrell signed on to voice villain Lord Business in “The Lego Movie” is because he’s come from a Lego lineage. He and his brother played Lego as kids, his kids play Lego, and he was frankly wowed that the toy-maker was open for a movie to examine “following the rules.”
“I’m impressed they had that kind of scrutiny about this toy, when it commented on conformity in society, what is ordinary, average, everyday,” Ferrell said during our recent interview on the animated film.
No doubt, “The Lego Movie” is also extremely funny, under the direction and screenplay of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, helmers behind some other off-beat comedies: “21 Jump Street” and “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs,” namely.
Ferrell said that his own comedic and creative ideas “just kind of hit me when I least expect it,” and when he gets in a runt, “the I just don’t worry about it and let it pass.”
Certainly good advice for aspiring professionals. (Maybe playing Lego works, too.)
