It is with sadness that we pass on the news that up and coming Bellator featherweight Jordan Parsons has died after a hit and run incident that occurred this past Sunday in Delray Beach, Florida.
Bellator president Scott Coker released a statement saying, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a dear member of the Bellator family, Jordan Parsons. Jordan was an exceptional athlete and a rising star in the sport.”
But more importantly, he was an exceptional young man. Jordan was hard-working, dedicated, intelligent, and a pleasure to be around. He represented all the reasons we love this sport. It is a terribly tragic loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and teammates.”
Police are still looking for a silver Range Rover with a missing driver’s side mirror. Parsons was struck on a crosswalk and left for dead. A police officer was on the scene within minutes of the accident and used an emergency blanket to apply pressure to Jordan’s injured leg. The action is credited with keeping him alive on the way to the hospital, but doctors later had to amputate the leg up to the hip.
According to Ariel Helwani, Parsons’ heart was functioning at 20 percent of its capacity and doctors were fighting to keep his organs from failing. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. He was 25 years old.
Our condolences go out to Parsons’ family and friends.
