The Drake and Meek Mill beef has been dead and buried for a while now (or maybe that’s just Meek Mill), but Beastie Boy Mike D helped to resurrect it during an interview with Michael Rapaport on his I Am Rapaport podcast.
Mike came out as a huge fan of Drake’s “Back To Back” before raving over some of the song’s more pointed barbs. The conversation started when Rapaport tried to cast modern hip-hop in a negative light:
“I like Drake!” Mike D countered. “When was the last time someone made a diss record that was like, a top ten pop record? I have a lot of love for Drake coming out with a diss record.”
When Rapaport tried to downplay the beef as a “water gun fight,” Mike doubled down:
“He hit hard, and he didn’t tread lightly.‘Is this a world tour, or is this your girl’s tour?’ This is real talk! If someone came at me with that, I don’t know what I’d do!”
The conversation turned to beef in a more general sense, leading Mike to talk about the Beasties’ beef with 3rd Bass. Mike says nothing that came from it was on the level of “hit ’em with the prenup,” which makes me think he hasn’t listened to “Sons of 3rd Bass” in a while.
The duo also discussed having Drake and Meek Mill throw down face-to-face à la Busy Bee and Kool Moe Dee. Of course, that’s an arena that Meek Mill would absolutely dominate, so someone as calculating as Drake would never agree to it. But still, it’s a fun conversation. Check out the whole interview up top.
