If Nirvana and Pixies are the kings of the quiet-loud-quiet formula, then Sleigh Bells are the king and queen of “cute-loud.” The ones that sound like they’re being sung by a peppy high school cheerleader…backed by under-the-bleacher heavy metal burnouts playing their fuzzy guitars at ear-blasting levels. It’s a method that’s worked well for Alexis Krauss and Derek Edward Miller on their first two albums, Treats and Reign of Terror, and based on the new single “Bitter Rivals,” they’re not changing things up much for album #3.
