After a horrifying evening filled with coordinated terrorist attacks that left Paris (and the world) reeling, the people of the City of Light came together in significant ways. Before Friday night drew to a close, over 100 people lost their lives while at least 200 sustained injuries (many of those serious). Some citizens had already reflected upon the miracle of life while world leaders (and our own president) vowed to help bring those responsible to justice.
In the streets of Paris on Saturday, Parisians walked the streets in a saddened daze as newspapers told the tale of Friday evening’s violence.
In the harsh light of day, the people of Paris struggled to come to terms with the enormous loss of life over the course of one evening. Outside the Le Carillon bar, mourners placed flowers and gathered in tribute to those whose lives were taken. The somber scene also reflected the solidarity of the Parisian community.
Near the LePetit Cambodge restaurant, a woman broke down in tears and found comfort from two friends. The restaurant was riddled with bullet holes.
At the Bataclan Theatre, the concert venue where armed gunmen took over 100 hostages at an Eagles of Death Metal show, Bono and U2 spent the evening with an assembled crowd of mourners.
Over at the Place de la Republique, Parisians also left trinkets and signs in tribute to those who were lost in the deadly terrorist attacks.
Far away at French Embassy in Berlin, Germany, hundreds of observers gathered to lay flowers and messages of condolence for the French people. The Brandeberg gate was also illuminated as a tribute to the colors of the French flag.
