In the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, many around the world have pledged to support those affected by the tragedy. On Tuesday, the Orlando-based Walt Disney Company announced it is donating $1 million to the families of the victims killed and injured in the Orlando shooting, Vulture reports.
The donation will go to the OneOrlando Fund, which was set up by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer to help families who were affected when a heavily-armed shooter entered Pulse nightclub, killing 49 people and injuring more than 50 others on Sunday.
Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts said in a statement that the company will also match donations made by Disney employees.
“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act. With 74,000 Cast Members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.”
Two of the victims worked for the Walt Disney Company — Jerald Arthur Wright, 31, was a seasonal employee at Magic Kingdom and Xavier Emmanuel Serrano Rosado, 35, worked at Disney Live! The Orlando Sentinel reports an unofficial vigil will be held at the Magic Kingdom this Saturday.
