Apparently one Rick-roll wasn’t good enough for Donald Trump, as old birtherism claims he once promoted weren’t the only thing the Republican nominee revived on Friday. During a campaign rally in Miami, he subtly trolled supporters and detractors alike with a jab at Hillary Clinton’s disdain for the Second Amendment, and many are interpreting it as another assassination joke.
“She wants to destroy your Second Amendment,” Trump told the booing crowd. “I think what we should do is, she goes around with armed bodyguards like you have never seen before. I think that her bodyguards should drop all weapons. They should disarm. Right? I think they should disarm immediately.”
As the rally crowd in Florida began to cheer, Trump took the joke even further. “Take their guns away. She doesn’t want guns,” he said. “Let’s see what happens to her.”
Whether or not Trump’s remarks were meant to be interpreted as such remains to be seen. Yet this wouldn’t be the first time the New York real estate mogul has quipped about the subject. Back in August Trump told an audience in North Carolina that Clinton would “essentially abolish the Second Amendment” if elected, and there was nothing they could do about it. He then shrugged while adding: “Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I dunno.”
